Today we went to the Pollença market, the biggest of Mallorca’s farmers and craft markets. Unlike the one in Sineu, where we went last time, Pollença’s market is along the streets for several blocks. The shops were also all open, so the whole city was engaged. It was packed. Parking was challenging, and Savitri and I ended up parking .5 mile away in a grass & dirt lot. In the sweltering heat you feel every step.
This old beauty was at the entrance to the lot.

You could hear the market before you could see it. The murmur of thousands of people walking and talking, and of course some live music. Funny, the local songs sound eerily familiar.
Of course there was lots of street food as well, including traditional buñuelos (fried dough rings).

It was very hot and congested, so we escaped when we could and craftily went where nobody else would think to go on a hot summer day- the beach..

This beach is Playa de Cala Barques in the village of Cala Sant Vincenç, tucked between the rocks in the north. Getting in and out of the water involved navigating some rocks, but the water was crystal clear, stunningly turquoise, and pleasantly warm. Matt, Cole, and Kayla (not Kyle, Kendra, nor Kevin) snorkeled all over while Liza and I lazily swam/stood about and Savitri sunbathed.

We ate at Cafe Niu right above the beach. The food was a mixed bag, but the location was perfect. Arguably the two best dishes were the nachos (simple but tasty and admittedly we are starving!) and the salmon poke (my only criticism is that they should use sushi sticky rice).

Impressive stonework as we left the beach..

Savitri and I went shopping on the way back to the house. One supermarket was closed, another out of lemons, so after a third we finally got back.. The house only has one set of keys so this surly lot was living on the steps when we arrived.
