More Gardens & Gelato

Today we planned to only have breakfast in order to save ourselves for the 6 gelato sampler at La Gelateria. When we were there two days ago, the server informed us of new flavors coming out. Let’s just say the original plan did not pan out. Don’t worry we did not skip gelato!

After breakfast, we headed straight up North to Jardim Botânico José do Canto. This was definitely a more established garden. At times it felt we were in a forest because it was so lush. We saw some interesting buildings and homes, tiles and views on the way there and back.

Finally at the gate of the garden, we paid our fee and were thankful for the breeze flowing through. Did we mention it is HUMID in the Azores. We are lucky the humidity is only 81% today as it has been 92%+ up to now. 🥵

The trees here are massive as you can see from the pictures and unlike the other garden it had less flowers but the few that we did see were vibrant.

After 2 hours of walking it is definitely time for gelato! I know 6 flavors seems like a lot but they are 1/2-single portions so technically we shared 3 singles – don’t judge! Tomorrow, we plan to go back to sample the other 6 flavors we missed today. We are off to Furnas so this is our last chance. 🤷🏽

Flavors (L > R, T > B): Pineapple Sorbet, Pistachio, Sea Salt Chocolate, Local Raspberry Sorbet, Yogurt & Honey & Walnut and Viennese Coffee

That was supposed to be our only lunch until dinner late tonight but Jesse has been eyeing this handmade burger joint, Suplexio, that he read about and has been closed. I relented to sharing one burger. We ended up with a burger, homemade fries with garlic mayo and passionfruit ice tea. Luckily for me, the burger came out rare vs medium as ordered so Jesse had to suffer and eat most of it. Everything was homemade and delicious.

The rest of the afternoon was spent working and blogging. One of us might have sneaked off to the spa for some steam and pool time before dinner. Last call all! At 7 PM we quickly got ready and headed to dinner at O Giro. This place is fantastic. Everything- the setting, atmosphere, service but especially, the food!

Jesse and I both got the Japanese Tasting Menu. It was out of this world. Every dish was plated with care and flare, but they were also delicious. While the pictures better highlight my meaning, they still do not do them justice.

Shrimp Kare (Curry)

We were thankful for the walk home because we were stuffed to the gills. So much so, we passed the #1 gelato shop, Gelataria Abracadabra, next door and it was even open! Don’t worry, we are hitting it tomorrow. Did anybody notice me mentioning us going to two gelato shops!?! Who knows what will happen …

It was a beautiful and breezy night. European cities at night are magical. Don’t know if it is the light up facades, architecture, the people mingling or just the feeling in the air but I just love it! What a great, last night in Ponta Delgada.
