After enjoying our morning coffee, Christine and I packed our backpack for the day – we were heading to Sagres for the day. After some instructions from Jesse on how to operate the Jeep Avenger and multiple 3-point turns to get out of the tight garage – we were off!

The day was cool but sunny and the drive smooth. As Jesse said, after “16 traffic circles”, some rolling hills and passing cows grazing – we arrived at Sagres. A smaller than Lagos surf town, Sagres is the most southwestern point of the Algarve and continental Europe. For centuries, it was believed to be the most western part of the world.

Our first adventure was a trail walk above Baleeria Port to get a better view of it and Enseada da Baleeira (a small bay in the coastline of a sea). This was next to the Memmo Baleeria Hotel that Penny stayed at the end of her bike trip. Boy was it windy up there but the views were well worth the trek. Even the birds were having fun flying overhead.

The trail’s flowers … many bright yellow and amongst the rocks.

Next stop – lunch! We set our sights on a restaurant overlooking the sea. We had to wait 40 minutes but it was well worth the wait. We just spent that time checking out a few of the open shops nearby. At 2 PM sharp, we headed back to A Tasca for our reservation. There goes Christine and look who she passes on the way.

Lunch consists of tapas, a shared pork dinner and my 1st glass of wine after a week. The views from the hotel were phenomenal and the sun on our face felt great! We literally spent 2 hours eating and enjoying the views. Even the neighboring dog enjoyed the prawns. He was adorable.

Next stop … the Sagres Fortress and Sagres Point. We paid our fee and entered the fortress. We were advised to visit the fortress buildings first because they closed within an hour.

Now to check the exploration museum within. Man, Jesse would have enjoyed this place. It was all about Portugal’s navigation and maps. Sadly though it was also about exploitation and the slavery due to the exploration.

Some artillery building …

Now for the best views and where the fun begins … Ponta da Sagres. There will be windy hair (seriously crazy!), shadow puppets, interesting sounds at the end of the tunnel maze and a bit of horsing around. We closed the place down!

We saw so many flowers among the rocks and open fields. These flowers are tough! They are beaten down by the sun and push around by the wind but yet they grow and blaze.

Then we finally reached the point. As you can see Christine is ecstatic! I told you we closed the place down. We were the last ones out.

Now for coffee (and a pastry for Savitri). OK and little bit more horsing around.. Girls just want to have fun.🤣 Time to head home (bummer) and catch up with Jesse, but what a fun day.
