Today started as a lazy day at home with a leisurely breakfast, doing laundry and researching what to do with the rest of the day. Eliza had a critical, full day of work so Riki, Jesse and I decided to stay local.

Eliza Hard at Work

Riki, Jesse and I ventured to the cliffs and viewpoints in Ponta De São Lourenço and lunch in Caniçal afterwards. Our drive took us under the impressive Funchal Airport runway. Check out the video below.

For a late lunch, we went with TripAdvisor’s 1st choice in Caniçal, Restaurante O Recante. An intimate restaurant with Portuguese dishes made with an artisan flair. The dishes were exceptional and my favorite restaurant to-date on this trip. Hopefully not my last.

We spent the late afternoon enjoying a pre-dinner drink on our porch with Eliza before heading to dinner at Atlantis, a restaurant on the cliffside of Caniço de Baixo. Ironically, our favorite Madeira Rosé is also named Atlantis though I doubt it is named after the restaurant.
We managed to get to the restaurant just in time for the sunset and it was fortuitous that they sat us on the patio overlooking the ocean.
