Finally recovered, Christine and I walked around the neighborhoods – chatting, laughing and checking out all the cool narrow alleyways and street art. The bottom two reminded us of the American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. We also picked up some local produce including herbal tea, honey and melon at the Mercado Municipal de Lagos to bring back to share with Jesse.
For some strange reason, Jesse and now Christine continue to be asked “smoke, smoke?” “coke?” “hashish?” by men roaming old town Lagos. Essentially being asked if they want to buy weed or cocaine. As of today, Jesse has been approached NINE times in Portugal! Why them specifically? Maybe because they are tall, white Americans? Who knows?!? Luckily, they just say it in passing and don’t harass them.

Both Christine, Jesse and I discovered (at different times) this cute, outdoor restaurant called The Garden. It is really pretty and the food was good. It was really nice to be out in the fresh air on a cool but sunny day. The last two days were cloudy, rainy and a little dreary.

Christine is addicted to coffee and the Portuguese pastry, Pastel de Nata. She finally managed to get some at Casa Da Nata since they were finally open when we passed by. We warmed them up and had them with the herbal tea that we bought at the local market.

Christine and I walked to the beach next to the apartment for dinner. We finally landed at a beach restaurant called Restaurante São Roque that served seafood. The restaurant was quiet with a view of the water on one side and old town on the other. We had a nice dinner together, then we walked back home via the boardwalk while watching the night skies, fireworks and old town city lights – really pretty. It was really nice to finally have some 1:1 time to catch up with my BFF. 👯
