Traveling Day to Lagos

Now that we have left Lisbon and headed South to Lagos (Algarve), things will move at a slower pace which we are all looking forward to. Our group has been reduced to three (Jesse, Sue and me) as Penny left this morning on her bike trip.

After checking out of our hotel, we went to the airport to pick up our Jeep Avenger. It took Jesse a solid hour to wait in line, sign the contract and for all of us to get on the road. The car was nice but had a very small trunk which meant we had to take the Western, coastal route instead of the central route through Evora. We did not want to worry about parking and leaving some of our luggage in the back seat.

The drive was a solid 5 hours with traffic not including a late stop for lunch. We drove over the Vasco Da Gama Bridge which is over 10 miles long (the longest in Europe!). We saw cows, sheep, windmills and some interesting trees along the way. Still have not figured what type of trees they are, but when we do we will post it.

We stopped for lunch at a coastal town called Sines and had lunch at Trinca Espinhas. A pretty restaurant with great views of the coast, fresh squeezed juice, their own local wine and tasty food.

Once in Lagos, it was a bit tricky finding our apartment. Once parked and our luggage safely in our apartment, we rushed over to the supermarket to get groceries before it closed at 9:30 PM. The supermarket was close, large and had fresh baked bread, produce and seafood. One lesson learned, is do not go to the supermarket right before closing and do not use the self check out if you have lot of groceries. What a terrible self check out system!

The remainder of the evening was a bit of a blur. Too tired to do anything else, we agree to have apps and drinks and relax at the apartment. Jesse even got to play some VR with his friend, Russell, back home while Sue and I enjoyed a glass of wine. Tomorrow we sleep in then head off to explore the neighborhood.
